dotdigital was founded in 1999 by entrepreneurs Tink Taylor and Simon Bird. They had launched a web design agency, with the BBC as one of their first clients, which over the years has developed into a full omnichannel marketing suite. In 2017, dotdigital acquired Comapi, a business messaging platform. Previously known as dotmailer, in 2018 the platform was rebranded dotdigital.

Within dotdigital, eCommerce merchants can view their customers grouped into personas based on recency, frequency, and monetary (RFM) purchase criteria.
